One of the club’s presidents commented on the resignation of Oleksandr Kabanenko and Vladyslav Korneiev and explained the board’s position.
Samir Huseinov, one of Athletic Futsal’s presidents, commented on the decision of head coach Oleksandr Kabanenko and goalkeeper coach Vladyslav Korneiev to step down.
“Our club has never sought to overhaul the squad in search of something ‘better’. The team has always mattered most to us — players who were with us back in the city championship still play for Athletic. It is the collective and teamwork that bring results, not individual stars.
After qualifying for the Champions League we could have strengthened the squad significantly, but we deliberately did not: we kept 95 % of the group that walked this whole road with the club.
That is why the coaches’ resignation came as a real shock to the board. The decision was theirs alone. We did everything we could to convince Oleksandr Kabanenko and Vladyslav Korneiev to stay, but could not. It is a big loss for us, yet we respect their choice.
We move on. We will announce the new coaching staff that will prepare the team for its Champions League debut shortly.”
